Design Brief

Chiltern Court is a 1929 residential apartment block comprising of 180 high class flats. The building was commissioned by The Metropolitan Railway, and designed above Baker Street station in Marylebone by Charles Walter Clark.

The building has a strict policy with respect to internal alterations, mostly reserved to existing services distribution within the building, entrance doors and internal party walls.

Client aspiration for this unusual 1 bedroom / 1 bathroom apartment was to incorporate additional bedroom, bathroom and a home office as a completely independent area within the apartment.

Whist this 1-bedroom apartment had spatial constraints, it had an advantage of over 4m in height which offered great opportunity for adding a mezzanine to create additional floor area.
